Rhythms of Resistance (RoR) Amsterdam is part of an international network of action percussion bands that play at demonstrations and direct actions that criticize and confront different forms of oppression, discrimination and exploitation. We use tactical frivolity or carnavalesque guerilla to express our rage and indignation, mainly using rhythms and dances. There are many ways to use loudness and danceability as a tool at protests or direct action.
We will introduce how the international network of ROR functions and the principles that lie behind it. What is tactical frivolity, what are the challenges of using it in an international context, when is it useful, when not? For an exchange of ideas and to share our experiences we will show various photos/short videos of different actions we organised or were part of. But we will not only discuss: together we will practice one of the rhythms and work towards a public performance/action.
