Reflections on the rise of the New University movement

Presentation on the Bungehuis and Maagdenhuis occupation in Amsterdam and what happened afterwards, followed by Q&A and reflections from some those involved in the protests.

A year ago on the 13th of February 2015 a new group called De Nieuwe Universiteit occupied the Bungehuis university-building in Amsterdam. This occupation kick-started a chain of events that led to a 6-week long occupation(/appropriation) of the Maagdenhuis and the subsequent resignation Universiteit van Amsterdam’s chair Louise Gunning.

In this workshop some of the people involved with DNU will give a brief presentation on all that happened, followed by reflections on what did or did not work, which may also be of interest for activists/militants outside the university. There will be space for Q&A and discussion.
