Whoring Utopia: Queer Erotic Arts & SW Liberation in de Wallen

Location Ru Paré

Amsterdam’s sex worker movement faces mounting challenges: skyrocketing window rents, the Erotic Center proposal, displacement from de Wallen, restrictive policies on working from home, and increasing barriers to brothel licensing. Sex workers are stripped of agency, forced to work under intermediaries controlled by the municipality, and dismissed as valid cultural producers—fueling the closure of their workspaces through gentrification & whorephobic sentiment.

Centering sex worker's artistic and cultural production is an antidote—a strategy to reclaim space, affirm labor rights, and challenge erasure through artistic expression. This program will include discussions on the role of arts in sex worker autonomy, alongside conversations on the book “HXSSY Presents: Queer SW Artists Manifesto.”

Join us in centering sex workers as cultural agents, resisting gentrification, and forging solidarity across movements.
