Lino Landscapes - peatland inspired print workshop

Location Ru Paré

This workshop weaves together activism, ecology, and creativity, offering participants an introduction to the Peatland Justice campaign and an interactive linoprinting session inspired by peatlands. We will begin with an exploration of peatland ecosystems, such as their vital role in carbon storage, biodiversity, and water regulation, and the challenges they face due to drainage, extraction, and industrial use. Through the Peatland Justice campaign, we will discuss how these landscapes connect to questions of justice, international trade, and regenerative futures.

Following this introduction, we will turn to artistic engagement as a means of deepening our connection to these landscapes. In the linoprinting session, we will carve into linoleum, recreating the patterns of drainage ditches that fragment peatlands. The inking process then becomes an act of restoration and rewetting, symbolizing our capacity to repair and reimagine human-altered ecosystems. Drawing inspiration from aerial views of polders, the microscopic structures of Sphagnum moss, and personal connections to peatlands, participants will create individual lino prints that come together to form a collective “peat core.” This process challenges the fear of artistic imperfection under capitalism, encouraging collaboration over competition and reminding us that change, just like restoration, is a layered, collective effort.

Through this workshop, participants will gain both a theoretical and embodied understanding of peatlands, leaving with a renewed sense of connection and agency in our shared efforts for Peatland Justice.
