With billions of people online today, it's easy to take virtual interfaces for granted. Even though there is a growing concern for our digital privacy, there is little information about individual data ownership (how is data owned?) and the complex array of companies managing everything we do online (who owns the data?). With big data comes big infrastructure, and big infrastructure entails questions surrounding the carbon footprint and privacy protocols of the places where this data exists physically: the towering data centres infiltrating our urban skyline.
Join Open Tech (AUC) by tracking down the data centres which store and process the data of your virtual worlds. In this workshop, you'll find out about the environmental costs of the digital world and better understand your own data rights.
